Just a short demo of how to use homebrew through the Homebrew Channel to play video files. In this example I used a port of MPlayer for Wii, which I believe boots through Wii Linux. The video is just on an SD card in the Wii’s front SD slot, and is a .avi encoded with Xvid. It should also boot from USB. You can easily google more information about the Homebrew Channel if you’re curious.
It does NOT require a modchip, only the use of the Twilight hack for the initial install (the offical Homebrew Channel site is good about explaining what to do step-by-step and has a link to the wiki for this hack).
If you install the Homebrew Channel I highly recommended getting the Homebrew Browser (also easy to google) to easily find, download, and update any homebrew you want to run.

I used the homebrew application known as Duplicate Channel Remover. This application is meant to delete any extra news and forecast channels that appear on your wii. But by accident I used the PAL Channel Remover on my JAP Wii and thus lost my original Japanese Wii news and forecast channels.
Since there are no existing WADs for the two channels and because they cannot be downloaded from the Wii Shop Channel, How may i bring back my original News and Forecast Channels?
You could update your wii, but you won't be able to install wads into it anymore. At least not without using the downgrader on the homebrew channel.

can you really fill up all the empty wii slots in the wii menu?
It depends on how big the size of the channel is. Things like the Nintendo Channel take up a lot of space while NES games take little space.

I played Burnout (greenday) from my Wii using my own custom channel! MP3 files are easy, because the Photo Channel already came with an ability to play them. I don’t know why it plays a chunk of it while it loads, but… meh.
I also don’t know how to get animations working, so if anyone knows, drop me a line.
Also, the graphic next to ‘Now Playing’ is supposed to be KK Slider… eh, yeahh…
Oh! And you get to see some more of my smazing camera holding skillz!
NEXT UP: Playing my hacked Pokemon Ruby ROM from a command prompt off the Wii. It’s err, KINDA working. I’m going to try to play Yoshi’s Story as well… but uh… yeahh

Wii Duplicated Channel Remover 1.0m (Multiregion version)
This application removes the duplicated channels installed after upgrading the Wii with a JAP or USA game.
Note:
This application uses the trucha bug to remove channels. Don’t upgrade your Wii!!
How to use:
Just run the application with Twilight Hack or burning the ISO. Then wait until it finishes. After that the Wii will restart automatically.
Also, the application will modify some data so these channels won’t be installed anymore.
